WebSockets now!

Saturday February 25, 10:30 am - 11:30 am

The next version of Adobe ColdFusion will have web sockets support, through both server-side components as well as a tag that builds the client-side code to communicate with the server. This can be done today, in both Open BlueDragon and Railo.

For the server side, we'll be looking at the Railo Web Sockets Gateway Extension, as well as the recently released socket connection support in Open BlueDragon.

On the client side, we'll be looking at socket.io, which provides both a server-side and client-side component for building cross-browser web socket apps (We're only interested in the client side, but we may take a look at the server side node.js code for fun!)

We'll build a quick little chat app to illustrate what a real-time web app using web sockets looks like.
